When it became clear at the end of 1996 that we would take over my in-laws' farm, a rest farm in the Grander Heide east of Hamburg, it was also clear: Now there is space again for our own dog - a Hovawart!

Through an acquaintance I heard about a breeder who still had two puppies to sell. A visit was quickly arranged. The rearing conditions were very favorable to us, the breeder had, as well as we, children, horses and cats.

We decided, against the advice of a friend, to buy a puppy from a VDH breed, for the sweet sm bitch. We didn't care that it was a puppy from a dissidence club.
At the beginning of March 1997 we were finally able to bring our gala home.

Even if I have never been to an exhibition with her or visited the Hundeplatz regularly - she has developed into a fantastic and very typical Hovi. With her very stubborn and strong character, she was a great companion in every situation. A few years ago I found four very young, orphaned kittens, and she “helped” me to raise them until they were handed over. She was in love with everything that could be looked after and guarded by her. Our foals were also licked dry by Gala after the birth (of course in the box and very interested in what was happening) together with the mare.

I then fulfilled my wish for a second Hovi with Velia, four years after Gala moved in.
